WALLA WALLA, WA (February 4, 2010) – “Go West, Young Man” was a popular quote as Americans moved across the country to settle the Wild West during the 19th century. Three talented baseball players are taking the counsel to heart as they venture West to join the Walla Walla Sweets in 2010.
Catcher Josh Daniel from St. John’s University (NY) and infielder Danny Poplawski from Georgetown University, both rising programs in the Big East Conference, and Marshall Yanzick, an infielder from Cornell University, have signed contracts to play for the Sweets this coming summer.
These players are actually coming back West, as all three come from towns west of the Mississippi. Daniel, a 6’ 4”, 200 lb. junior catcher, is from Lakewood, CO. Poplawski, a 6’ 2”, 180 lb. freshman infielder, is from Bellevue, WA, and Yanzick is a 6’2”, 185 lb. sophomore infielder from Beaverton, OR.
“In addition to their abilities on the baseball diamond, these young men come from academically challenging programs that require them to be on top of their game in the classroom as well,” said Sweets GM Zachary Fraser. “We are excited that they are choosing to continue their development as ballplayers with our club and look forward to their contributions towards winning a championship.”
